Written by thomas · Filed Under CommercialFebruary 10, 2009
The US legacy airline has applied to the DOT for authority to operate the first flight between Charlotte in North Carolina and Rio de Janeiro. The flights will originate in Philadelphia, providing one stop direct daily service. Brazil will be the first South American destination for the airline. If approved it will be the fifth US legacy airline serving Brazil, along with American, Continental, Delta and United. US Airways told the DOT it wants the requested service as the basis for its planned expansion into South America. It believes it can build a major hub/gateway in Charlotte.
