WestJet Anuncia Factor de Carga Récord de 76,8% para Enero
February 4, 2009
Bombardier Global Aircraft Receive EASA Certification for lower EVS Approaches
February 4, 2009
Montreal, February 4, 2009 — Bombardier Aerospace announced today that it has received
approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for Global aircraft equipped with
the Bombardier Enhanced Vision System (BEVS) to obtain operational credit for continuing
approaches to 100 feet. Bombardier’s BEVS had previously received approval from Transport
Canada and the Federal Aviation Administration.
EU-OPS rule 1.430(h) requires pilots using instrument approach procedures to be able to
visually see the approach lights and runway environment from a predetermined height in order
to proceed with landing. With BEVS, that distance has been reduced to 100 feet. This is the
European equivalent of Federal Aviation Regulation 91.175.
The Bombardier Enhanced Vision System (BEVS) provides pilots with significantly improved
situational awareness and the ability to observe runway lights and the runway environment in
difficult operating conditions, such as low visibility and or darkness. BEVS also enhances safety
by helping to identify runway incursions. The heart of the BEVS is the CMC Electronics
CMA-2700, a new, third-generation member of its SureSight® family of I-Series™ integrated
sensor systems for Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) applications, integrated with
Rockwell Collins Heads-Up Guidance System (HGS®). Together, the system enables descent
down to 100 feet above ground level, thereby enhancing operational flexibility.

Flexjet Launches Innovative, Cost-Effective Program for Quick Turnaround Trips
February 3, 2009
– Fractional owners will receive a 15 percent price reduction for each hour of a qualifying round trip
The Round Trip Pricing program, launching on
“We expect this not to be a limited time offer,” said
The new program rewards the increased operational efficiency gained when a fractional owner books both legs of a round trip in advance. Efficiencies are gained through the ability to maximize active flight and crew time. Flexjet owners will see savings applied to both their hourly rate and Fuel Component Adjustment fees. The result is a 15 percent price reduction for each hour of a qualifying round trip and can save owners thousands of dollars for each flight flown.
Any owner with two shares or more in the fractional program–equivalent to 100 hours or more per year–qualifies for the program. The reduced rate is available under two scenarios–the Day Trip or the Overnight Trip–both of which need to be booked in advance.
- The Day Trip includes a round-trip of no more than 12 hours from start to finish on the same calendar day.
- The Overnight Trip consists of one night away with a layover of 12 to 20 hours.
The program gives Flexjet owners an incentive to plan ahead. Not only will the owners enjoy reduced hourly rates, but it makes travel in a Flexjet aircraft, as opposed to a charter, much more cost-effective.
Round Trip Pricing can be used on any day of the year, even peak days, and there is no minimum time requirement on use of the aircraft.
“Round Trip Pricing provides our owners with an enhanced benefit that saves them money through the efficiencies we can build into our operation on their behalf,” added Mr. Levesque.

Pratt & Whitney Completes Testing of PurePower™ PW1000G Geared Turbofan™ Engine
February 3, 2009
Successful Ground and Flight Testing of World’s Greenest Jet Engine Completed on Target
TOULOUSE, France, Feb. 3, 2009 – Pratt & Whitney has completed ground and flight testing of the PurePower PW1000G demonstrator engine. The final phase of testing was completed jointly with Airbus on an A340-600 flight test aircraft and included 27 flights and more than 75 hours of flight testing. The PW1000G engine features Pratt & Whitney’s patented Geared Turbofan technology and targets double-digit reductions in fuel burn, engine noise, environmental emissions and operating costs. Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
The Airbus flight testing follows Pratt & Whitney’s own ground and flight test program, during which the engine completed approximately 300 hours of ground testing and 12 flights on Pratt & Whitney’s Boeing 747SP flying test bed. The PW1000G demonstrator engine successfully completed all test objectives.
“It is truly unprecedented to complete this amount of testing on a technology demonstrator engine,” said Bob Saia, vice president, Next Generation Product Family. “We were able to complete all flight test objectives with flawless engine operation. The Airbus A340 flight test program included engine test evaluations normally conducted for a production engine certification. The PurePower PW1000G demonstrator engine successfully demonstrated the performance and operational benefits of the engine’s unique gear system.”
The most recent flight test program assessed in-flight performance, engine handling, in flight acoustics and aircraft installation of the demonstrator engine. Following the recent removal from the Airbus A340 aircraft, Pratt & Whitney will analyze the test data for engine design optimization during the next several months.
“One of a kind demonstrator engines like this are typically designed to test for approximately 100 hours,” Saia said. “It is extraordinary that the PW1000G demonstrator engine completed 406 hours of testing including a total of 120 hours in flight. The engine performed exceptionally throughout the program, demonstrating both performance and reliability under extremely challenging tests such as high altitude aircraft flight maneuvers exceeding two G’s of acceleration force. Thousands of data points taken during this test program will enable our engineers to optimize the engine as we enter detailed design mid-year.”
The completion of the ground and flight test program clears the way for detailed design of the production PurePower PW1000G engine for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet and the Bombardier CSeries mainline aircraft. Both aircraft are scheduled to enter service in 2013.
The PurePower PW1000G engine uses an advanced gear system allowing the engine’s fan to operate at a different speed than the low-pressure compressor and turbine. The combination of the gear system and an all-new advanced core delivers double-digit improvements in fuel efficiency and environmental emissions and a 50 percent reduction in noise. Pratt & Whitney has successfully tested the advanced high pressure compressor and low emissions combustor technology. The PurePower PW1000G engine is an all new centerline engine that includes next generation technology in every major module.
Pratt & Whitney has more than 16,000 aircraft engines installed with hundreds of airlines around the world. Pratt & Whitney is also a leading partner in two joint venture companies that manufacture commercial aircraft engines: International Aero Engines, which makes the V2500 for the Airbus A320 family of aircraft, and the Engine Alliance, whose GP7200 engine is in service on the Airbus A380.
Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the global aerospace and building industries.
Korean Air orders two more A380s
February 3, 2009
Korean Air has placed firm orders with Airbus for two more double-deck A380 aircraft. This latest purchase agreement brings the total number of A380s ordered by Korean Air to ten aircraft. The carrier will operate the aircraft in a three-class layout on routes linking Seoul to destinations in North America and Europe, including Los Angeles, New York and Paris.
“Our decision to purchase the A380 aircraft is in line with our vision to become a global leading carrier providing the best quality of service to our passengers,” said Yang Ho Cho, Chairman and CEO of Korean Air. “The A380 is a comfortable, environment-friendly aircraft for the 21st century and it will enable Korean Air to provide Excellence in Flight to our customers.”
John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers said: “This order from Korean Air underscores the unique ability of the A380 to meet future growth requirements on the most heavily-travelled routes. By placing additional orders today, Korean Air will be even better placed to consolidate its position as a leading global carrier, offering its passengers the highest levels of in-flight comfort aboard this all new flagship of the airline industry.”
The eco-efficient A380 is already setting new standards for air transport and the environment. In addition to offering unequalled levels of passenger comfort, space and quietness in the cabin, the A380 has unmatched levels of fuel efficiency, consuming less than three litres per passenger per 100 kilometres. Its new-generation engines and superb aerodynamic performance mean that the A380 not only complies with today’s noise limits, it is also significantly quieter than any other large aircraft flying today.
With a range of 8 200 nm / 15 200 km, and seating 525 passengers in a standard three class layout, the A380 is the ideal aircraft to alleviate traffic congestion at busy airports, while coping with growth.
Total orders for the aircraft now stand at 200 from 16 customers.
